Use Hand Touch to Teach Stand

Use this when you want a reliable way to bring your dog up into a stand.

  1. 1While your dog is in a down, hold your hand out at a height that requires standing to touch it.
  2. 2Give the "touch" cue.
  3. 3Mark and reward when your dog stands to touch your hand.
  4. 4Add your verbal "stand" cue right before presenting your hand as the behavior solidifies.
  5. 5If your hand touch isn't strong enough yet, lure the stand by drawing a treat diagonally up and away from your dog's nose.

Place your hand where standing is the only way to reach it, then add the word “stand.”
