Teach Spin With Luring

Use this once your dog follows a lure reliably and you want to practice luring on a full behavior.

  1. 1Hold a treat close to your dog's nose and slowly lure them in one direction around a wide circle.
  2. 2If a full circle is difficult, use four small treats and build the movement in stages: one-quarter, halfway, three-quarters, then a full circle.
  3. 3Mark with "yes" and reward at each stage as your dog follows the lure.
  4. 4As your dog understands the movement, reduce to two treats, rewarding at the halfway point and at the full rotation.
  5. 5Eventually, use one treat and reward only after your dog completes the full spin.
  6. 6Once your dog has mastered the spin in one direction, practice the opposite direction as well.

Spin puts your luring skills into action, one small step at a time.
