Respond to Leash Pulling

Use this any time your dog starts pulling during a walk.

Key Ideas

  1. 1Stop Motion: Stop and plant your feet. When the leash loosens and your dog checks in, praise them and resume walking.
  2. 2Come to Heel: Stop, cue "come to heel," and back up one or two steps. Use a lure or hand touch if needed, then reward after several loose-leash steps.
  3. 3U-Turn: Turn promptly and walk in the opposite direction without tugging. Keep your leash hand at your side and reward after your dog returns beside you for several steps.

Try stopping, cueing a return to heel, or making a calm U-turn.
