Lure the Sit

Use this if your dog doesn't offer sits naturally, or readily follows food.

  1. 1Hold a treat at your dog's nose.
  2. 2Move it slightly up and back over their head.
  3. 3Mark when their rear touches the ground, then reward while they remain seated.
  4. 4Once your dog follows the lure reliably, say "sit" before moving the treat.
  5. 5Gradually fade the food lure into a flat-palm hand signal.
  6. 6Reward your dog several times while they remain seated, then use a release cue to end the behavior.

Reward while your dog is still seated, fade the lure, then release.
