Deliver Food Reward Effectively

Use this any time you're rewarding a behavior and deciding how to deliver the treat.

  1. 1Decide whether you want your dog to maintain position or create a reset.
  2. 2Mark the behavior before reaching for the treat.
  3. 3Hold the treat securely and deliver it smoothly.
  4. 4To maintain position, deliver the treat directly to your dog where you want them to remain.
  5. 5To create a reset, use your release or “find it” cue and toss the treat a short distance away.

Reward delivery is part of the training plan.
