Build Offered Attention

Use this when you want your dog to offer attention voluntarily, especially around distractions.

  1. 1Choose a quiet room and have your dog on leash.
  2. 2Wait until your dog looks up at you, then mark with "yes" and reward.
  3. 3Reset by placing a treat on the ground in front of them.
  4. 4Mark and reward again when they naturally look back up at you.
  5. 5Repeat this process about 10 times.
  6. 6Practice in different rooms, then the porch, backyard, and driveway as your dog improves.

Attention your dog chooses to give matters more than attention you ask for.
