Add a Verbal Cue to Spin

Use this once your dog spins reliably on the hand signal alone.

  1. 1Give the hand signal for spin, then mark and reward.
  2. 2Say "spin," then immediately follow with the hand signal, then mark and reward.
  3. 3Repeat this pairing about 9 times.
  4. 4On the 10th time, say "spin" and wait a second before helping with the hand signal.
  5. 5If your dog spins on the verbal cue alone, mark and reward with a jackpot of several treats.
  6. 6If not, help with the hand signal, mark, and reward --- then keep practicing the pairing.

Say the word, pause, then help with the hand signal — not the other way around.
